World War I Day - Historical Society Visit

1st November 2022
We were really fortunate to have the Sampford Peverell Historical Society visit the school today to impart their knowledge on how The Great War affect the people of the village.
The children in Oak and Cedar Class looked at what children got up to by looking at (and having a go at) games they played and the songs they sang. In Beech, Peter delivered a session all about the buildings and shops which were in the village around 1914. They looked at the products they provided and the money they used.
Clive spoke to the children in Ash about how the war began and how the how it directly affected people in the village. They looked at the Historical Society's website and the information about the people in the village - including a nurse who lived in Mill Farm and an army vet who cared for horses in the war.
The children were fantastic in the coming up with question fuelled by their curiosity and the knowledge of both Peter and Clive! I am sure that they have sown the seed of historical enquiry in our children - many thanks to all involved in the society (including those who could not make it to school).
